Distance Learning at MBU

Online Academic Programs

Fulfilling a vision to reach learners through electronic technology, Missouri Baptist University began offering students the option of completing two academic programs entirely online with the fall 2008 semester.

Specifically, MBU offers both the Master of Science in Sport Management and the Master of Science-Curriculum and Instruction online. The Master of Science in Sport Management is offered exclusively online. Students pursuing the Master of Science in Education—Curriculum and Instruction will have the option of completing the program online, in the classroom or through a hybrid approach that blends both options.

About MS-Sport Management:
This 31-credit-hour program provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including interscholastic athletics, intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management.

About MSE-Curriculum and Instruction:
The 31-credit hour program offers students the opportunity to enhance not only their comprehension and understanding of curriculum and instruction, but also, to develop the professional technological skills required for success in today’s educational environment. Many classes are offered face-to-face as well as online.

In the summer of 2008, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approved without restrictions MBU's request to begin offering the Master of Science in Sport Management and the Master of Science-Curriculum and Instruction online. The approval came after a HLC evaluation team accessed the viability of MBU's Distance Learning opportunities during a three-day visit in the spring.

The HLC, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
