Various abbreviations are used on campus to simplify references in printed and online documents. Records and Public Relations use these codes regularly and encourage other departments to maintain consistency in use.

FACILITY NAMES

When stating the name of a campus building on formal publications, the full name should be used rather than an abbreviation.

Special regard should be given to the notation of the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center. There is only one acceptable form of this building’s name. It is never acceptable to shorten the name or reverse its order.

Examples of unacceptable titles:
The chapel
The fine arts center
Pillsbury Chapel
Dale Williams Fine Arts Center
Dale Williams Fine Arts Center and Pillsbury Chapel

If the name of a room, hall, or meeting facility is noted in a publication, you must also include the full name of the building in which it is located, e.g. The reception will be held in the Mabee Great Hall in the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center.

There are exceptions for specific publications. Any questions regarding notation of building names should be directed to University Communications.

Shortened acceptable versions: Names may be shortened for use in on-campus communication, such as chapel announcements, student activity fliers and table tents. Please note that it is never acceptable to use a shortened version of the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center.

Abbreviations: Abbreviated building names are reserved for use in the course schedule and campus calendar.
