What’s Your Next Step?
Where are you in the journey to find the perfect career? Whether you are a freshman getting your feet wet, the new college grad trying to snag your first job, or a seasoned alumni seeking a career change, this information can help you gain clarity on what could be the next step for your future.
Where do you fit?
1. Choosing a major
The idea of being an undecided major may seem mysteriously cool as you search for your place in life and in a university, but by the beginning of your sophomore year it is best to have an idea on what area of study interests you. Missouri Baptist University offers a plethora of majors and your academic advisor can help you in this decision. Career services offers a program called Discover that can help you funnel your preferences and personality into a career that may fit who you are. This program requires a password that can be attained by contacting Career Services.
2. Finding opportunities to give you a well rounded experience while in college
Whether you are seeking a part time job for some extra cash or seeking permanent employment, now is the perfect time to begin actively participating in opportunities to build your skills and experience. These opportunities add diversity to your resume as your future employer is looking for a well rounded person. The opportunities lurk everywhere! They include any type of employment, involvement in collegiate activities, leadership roles, and internships.
3. Choosing a career that fits you and your major
Now that you have a major and are working on building your professional resume it is time to find a job that will work for you. Don’t think that you must be locked into the job that typically fits your major, as not every education major must teach in a school. These resources can help guide you in choosing and finding a career.
What can I do with this major?
Remember what Confucius said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
4. Preparing to enter the Workforce
